A SOL swap through an exchanger typically completes in anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. The exact time depends on three things: the chain you are leaving, the chain you are arriving on, and whether the exchange requires any manual step.

Start with the transaction you control. If you are moving SOL from Solana to another chain, the network itself settles in seconds. Solana's block time is roughly 400 milliseconds, so your transaction is final almost immediately. The wait begins after that.

The exchanger receives your SOL and must confirm it on-chain. That confirmation is fast, but the exchanger does not necessarily act the moment it arrives. Some run automated sweeps every few minutes. Others batch transactions, especially during busy periods. If the service is under load, your swap can sit in a queue behind others. This is usually the largest, least predictable part of the process.

Then the exchanger sends the destination asset. If you are moving to Ethereum or a layer-2 like Arbitrum, the destination network's own confirmation time becomes the bottleneck. There are edge cases that stretch the timeline. If the destination asset is a token that requires a smart-contract approval, or if the exchanger must source liquidity from a pool rather than its own reserves, that adds time. Large amounts may trigger manual review. Some services hold funds for anti-fraud checks, which can mean 15 to 30 minutes of quiet waiting. You rarely see an explanation for that hold; it just happens.

The practical answer, then, is not a single number. For a small, routine swap between fast chains, expect five to fifteen minutes total. For a swap involving Ethereum or a slow chain, budget half an hour. For anything unusual - new token, large size, obscure destination - give it an hour and check the status page.

One more factor: the exchanger's own interface. Most show a status screen that updates as the swap progresses. Use it. If the screen says "awaiting deposit" and your transaction is confirmed, the delay is on the exchanger's side. If it says "sending" and the destination network is congested, that is a network problem, not a service problem. Knowing which one you are in saves you from refreshing pointlessly.

The key distinction is that this is not a DEX trade. On a DEX, you swap instantly from your own wallet, and the only wait is the chain's confirmation.
